Awesome Ride to Gettysburg on 22 August 2004

Tuesday, August 24th, 2004

Tribemates — we had an awesome ride to Gettysburg on Sunday. Many thanks to ride rabbi Matt Rosenstock for the excellent route and the excellent weather. Eight bikes in all rode together. In Gettysburg, we met up with our brothers the Semites On Bikes, a Jewish motorcycle group in Baltimore. They showed up 14 bikes strong. Who could imagine a group of 22 Jewish motorcycles invading Gettysburg? Strength in numbers, baby!

Here are a few pictures from the ride:

Details for the Gettysburg Ride on 22 August 2004

Wednesday, August 11th, 2004

Our ride rabbi, Matthew Rosenstock, has announced a ride for Sunday, 22 August 2004 to Gettysburg PA. The ride will start at the Park-N-Ride at the corner of I-270 and Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. Meeting time is at 9 AM. The ride will take us into Gettysburg for lunch.

From Matt:

This ride will start and end at the Quince Orchard Park-n-Ride which is at 270 and Rt 124. I scouted my original ride plan and the return trip was not much fun. So, I changed the return trip to roads I know a little more about and can trust to be paved.

Let’s meet at 9:00 for a 9:30 departure time. It’s only 56 miles to our destination, so there will be no stops on the way up. If you need fuel, there is a gas station on 124 just south of the Park-n-Ride. Also, because parking in Gettysburg is tough, I don’t want to arrive too late. By leaving at 9:30, we should arrive around 11:00-11:30. The restaurant for lunch is not kosher, but it’s one of the few that is open on Sunday.

My hope is to leave Gettysburg by 1:00 and be back to the Park-n-Ride by 2:30 or so. We’ll have some time in Gettysburg to walk around and have a leisurely lunch. On the way back, if we need to stop for fuel, let me know during lunch. Otherwise, it will be a non-smoking, non-stop flight back.

For those of you who don’t know where the Park and Ride is, here are directions from I-270:

The Park & Ride lot is west of I-270 and south of MD-124.

From NORTHBOUND I-270: Use Exit 10 (MD-117 West, Clopper Road). DO NOT GO TO EXIT 11. At the end of the ramp continue west on Clopper Road to the traffic light at MD-124/Quince Orchard Road. Turn right (east) on MD-124/Quince Orchard Road. After passing under the railroad bridge, turn right at the traffic light into the Park & Ride lot.

From SOUTHBOUND I-270: Exit 11 (MD-124, Gaithersburg). The exit ramp widens to 3 lanes - the CENTER LANE takes you across MD-124 at the traffic light into the Park & Ride lot.

Below is a photo of several Tribe members on our ride on the 25th of April. That ride was a “name” ride, stopping by roads with Judaism-related names. Here we are gathered alongside Shalom Lane.

Third from the left, in the brown leather jacket is Jay Rubin, club president. Fifth from the left, in the yellow and orange riding suit is Henry Winokur, club treasurer/secretary. Third from the right, in black leathers and red do-rag, is Jeffrey Kay, club vice president.
